The Gardens Retreat: For a taste of the tropics..

Slap-bang in the middle of a picturesque scenery, the Gardens Retreat is a hop, skip and a jump away from Péreybère beach. It’s also a short jaunt to bustling Grand Bay.

Cute as a button and pretty as a picture, its interiors are neatly swathed in hues of whites and brights with stacks of charm and quirk. They say first impressions are lasting. Our first and last impression of the modern retreat: Island living at its finest. Of an unassuming beauty. The super-sweet haven which is Gardens Retreat, calls for an exclusive family vacation!

Pull into its rustic drive off the main route, thoughtfully fashioned just a little bit wild, the fairy-tale surrounds would prove just an appetizer of what follows next. Some serious Mauritian drama in the making, you’ll be in for a cobbled walk!

Retreating to fling open the door to one of the themed bungalows, impeccably designed and furnished, a comfy open-plan family setting will greet you. There, fresh air floods the living spaces thanks to the sliding patio doors positioned at the entryway, plus some louvre windows flanking by the kitchen sink. In fact, all things refreshingly homey and cosy, imagine a set of rattan sofas of a black bean colour onto which you can prop up in style, a tight grid of lavender grey tiles which effectively emphasizes the minimalist decor, and, to beef up everything, some bespoke works of art. Perfect for unwinding and getting away from it all, the chalky white space demands corking out a bottle of champagne.

Talking of kitchen sink, you’ll find a lovely kitchenette a few steps further. Running along a corner of the house, the kitchenette complete with driftwood inspired cupboards is cleverly fitted with modern day essentials including the microwave, coffee maker, kettle, toaster amongst others. Wanna sit? A wooden workbench serving as dining table makes for a sweet spot to chit chat and eat.

Beyond the wood-lined walls, equally perfect for curling up over a glass are the laid-back bedrooms. With eight types of bungalows to choose from, namely Bois Chandelle, Bois Boeuf, Bois Mapou, Frangipane, Hibiscus, Longane, Jamalac and Casse Jaune, forget identical sleeping quarters. Here really lies the treat. Every single bedroom has been packed with exclusivity, character, yet equal warmth.

Consider Bois Mapou’s bedroom for instance, the bedded bliss which makes for a good night’s sleep after a busy day out can be best explained by the thoughtful colour schemes used in the room. In the monochromatic retreat’s bedrooms, hefty tuscan brown colours instinct with geometric-medallion shapes not only keep the glaring sunlight off but also ensure that the whitey white rooms stay serene. Of the same tuscan brown colour, the beds are interestingly covered with boldly coloured throw pillows and bedspreads, all coordinated beautifully with downy white pillows.

What next, the fabulous outdoor space awaiting you is best spent lazing… by the drool-worthy pools. Oh yes!

Dutch Uncle says: The green thumb of the Gardens retreat is unavoidable. One big favourite amongst newlyweds and die-hard romantics, it deservingly receives our thumbs-up.
