AHRIM (Association of Hoteliers and Restaurants in Mauritius) is the main professional association of private operators in the hospitality industry in Mauritius. It is a non-profit making organisation entirely financed by its members and regroups more than 75% of hotels in Mauritius (80 establishments), some 30 Small and Medium Hotels, guest houses and tourist residences, 30 restaurants, most of the IRS estates and Affiliate/Associate member associations of tour operators, airport management, scuba diving, chefs, and professional training.
AHRIM’s main goal is to ensure the sustainable development of the local hospitality and tourism industry. Its mandate articulates around four main axes:
- To be the lead spokesperson of the private operators, by liaising with Government, Institutions and the Media, with regard to issues and matters pertaining to the tourism industry
- To represent a dynamic tourism sector and to contribute positively towards sustainable and quality tourism
- To promote the interests of hotels, restaurants and other service providers of the tourism industry in general
- To serve and respond to expectations of its members as well as those of partner stakeholders
The Association represents its members on the main decision-making bodies of the industry at the national level. It is thus called upon to examine and contribute to issues that are relevant to its members and their businesses – sustainable development, air access, destination marketing, taxation, industrial relations, training, etc.
In joining forces, the Association thus regroups small establishments, helping them to share experiences, and lay emphasis on their comparable problems. Smaller operators within AHRIM can therefore benefit from services adapted to their condition and development imperatives. Tools developed for their communication, marketing or representation towards the governing bodies, are adapted to their requirements. Two years ago, a product label named ‘Authentic’ was created and the Association is today pursuing works with the authorities in order to unlock the options proposed by the new technological tools meant for small accommodation service providers.
AHRIM SMH members aim at bringing value responses to demands for a different tourism and engaging those who already know the Mauritius destination onto other experience paths in terms of accommodation. They can thus propose personalised services, tailor made offerings, and a unique island living experience.
